web-based facilitation of customized biological purchasing
We have built a web-based solution for facilitating the purchase of customized biologicals (and standard purchases as well). Our tool
allows for the biostore to provide the researcher or principal investigator the ability to design and submit
orders, via our hosted web site, for custom molecular products including; custom DNA oligonucleotides, custom siRNA
oligonucleotides, custom/catalog DNA microarrays, and/or custom peptides. The researcher has to ability to login to
their account, design their custom biologicals, then submit their order to a vendor for production and have the entire
line item purchase submitted to the biostore's financial system through some messaging process. Some of the vendors in
this arena are Qiagen, Invitrogen, Sigma, Proligo, and MWG. This is all done electronically, thus eliminating the need
for faxed orders which are prone to errors and take more time to process.
Our back-end services include messaging the Biostore's financial and/or point-of-sale system so that the complete order
along with each line item are automatically loaded into the existing financial process. Our back-end messages each
vendor within an order with a formatted message, customized to each vendor, ready for use in their customer service
application. Line items within the message can be made ready for direct use in the vendor's sequencer or other manufacturing
processor.
Biostore administrators have the ability to manage pricing, customers, and orders via the administration process. The
Biostore can allow vendors the ability to assist in managing pricing. Our service makes customer stewardship, vendor
management, as well as product management a hassle free process; allowing the Biostore to concentrate on customer service.
This is a service that will soon be spun off as a new entity called BioStores, Inc.
